CHS Fencers Garner All-American Honors

CHS fencers Naomi and Afwé USA Fencing has named CHS senior Afwé Griffin and sophomore Naomi Hirsch to its 2018-19 All-American team, an honor which recognizes the nation’s best high school fencers acknowledging their skill in the sport, academic standing, leadership and sportsmanship.

Named to the second team, Hirsch, had a successful season, earning her “D” rating in epee. She competed at Junior Olympics in Denver, where she finished 49th in Cadet Women’s Epee and earned national points.

Recognized with honorable mention status, Griffin earned her “E-19” rating and qualified for her third Junior Olympics. She also placed well in several local tournaments, including the inaugural Philadelphia Division High School Fencing Championships.

All Americans will be recognized at the 2019 Summer National Championships and July Challenge in Columbus, Ohio, on July 1. Honorees receive an official certificate of recognition, exclusive bag tag promoting their accomplishment and recognition in USA Fencing communications.
