Skills for Life Students Complete Chartwells Internship

Skills for Life Students Complete Chartwells Internship CHS Skills for Life students Isaiah Jones and Adayzha Sapp recently completed an internship with Chartwells Food Service at the high school. The students reported to the CHS kitchen twice a week for two hours during the fourth marking period.

“Our students learned so many new skills and the Chartwells staff were so great,” said CHS Skills for Life staffer Penny Young.

The students learned food preparation tasks related to the daily menu, including cupping fruits and sides, panning frozen burgers and chicken nuggets, bagging cookies and cutting vegetables. Jones and Sapp learned how to unload and care for produce and other items and even worked in the dish room. Students received job coaching and Chartwells employees supported skill development by demonstrating the proper technique to complete kitchen-related tasks. On the students’ final day, Chartwells Site Manager Merle Harris presented Jones and Sapp with certificates and a cake.

“We are grateful to Maureen Cahill and Merle Harris and all of the CHS Chartwells team for their generosity and for supporting this meaningful experience for these great students,” said CHS Transition Coordinator Gus Ekhardt.
