Tickets on Sale for Cheltenham Musical Theater’s Production of Urinetown
For its 56th annual production, Cheltenham Musical Theater is staging multiple Tony Award-winning “Urinetown” Thursday through Saturday, April 11-13 at Stretton Hall at Cheltenham High School.
In the not-so-distant future, a water shortage and two-decade-long drought have combined to bring about a government ban on private toilets and a proliferation of paid public toilets - owned and operated by malevolent CEO Caldwell B. Cladwell and his Urine Good Company (UGC). Cladwell enriches his company and exiles renegades to an unknown fate in Urinetown. Meanwhile, his daughter Hope Cladwell works with hero Bobby Strong to liberate the public from capitalist oppression and gain the right to pee “wherever you like, whenever you like, for as long as you like, and with whomever you like.” An animated cast tell a witty story of corporate greed and populist revolution, satirizing musical theatre conventions with irreverent, tongue-in-cheek humor. Modeled after the plays of Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht, Urinetown is a wickedly funny, fast-paced and surprisingly intelligent comedic romp. Recommended for ages 10 and up.
