Panthers Student-Athletes Max Brown, Marcus Winfield Sign National Letters of Intent

senior athlete signings Wednesday morning, seniors Marcus Winfield (top left with his parents) and Max Brown (bottom left with his family) signed letters of intent to play football and soccer, respectively, in college next fall. Winfield, a defensive end, is headed to Delaware State University, while Brown will be attending the University of Mary Washington (UMW).

A senior captain and varsity starter for two years, Brown scored five goals and recorded five assists on his way to earning second-team all-league honors for the 6-7-1 Panthers this past season. The winner of a Presidential Merit Award from UMW, Brown intends to study business and Spanish for the Division III Eagles, who went 14-1-5 and qualified for the NCAA tournament in 2018. Selected for the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association Olympic Development Program team U13-U17, Brown has been playing soccer since he was four. His club squad is the Future Player Academy, which is top ranked in Pennsylvania and fifth in the nation.

A Mini Max Award winner this fall, Winfield is following in his father's footsteps by playing for the Hornets, who went 3-8 in 2018 playing in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. A defensive end and offensive lineman, Winfield was recognized with Suburban One League American Conference All-League honors at both of those positions. As a defensive end this season, Winfield totaled 86 tackles, 17 tackles for a loss, five pass breakups and three and a half sacks. As an offensive lineman, he paved the way for the Panthers offense which boasted all-league selections at every skill position. Winfield is Coach Ryan Nase's first Division I signee.
