7th Annual Skills for Life Thanksgiving Feast

CHS students and staff at the Skills for Life Thanksgiving celebration On Thursday, Nov. 16, the CHS Skills for Life students gathered with students, staff and administrators to give thanks and enjoy a student-organized buffet-style Thanksgiving meal at the seventh annual Thanksgiving feast in the Skills for Life apartment.

Every step of the meal - from planning to table setting - was instructive and student-driven, and included a planning session and subsequent community-based shopping trip to a local market. Students began the food prep two days prior to the feast.

Students also engaged in a history dive and literacy project exploring gratitude and the origins of the holiday. Student writing about gratitude was embedded onto the tablecloth for visitors to read.

Skills for Life teacher Vonnie Gillick noted, "Having students prepare for the annual Thanksgiving feast is a great opportunity for Skills for Life students to apply and practice learned reading, math, vocational and social skills in one collaborative activity."
