Wrestling’s Rob Weneck Honored with League Coach of the Year
(March 13, 2023) Congratulations to Panther Wrestling Coach Robert Weneck, who has been named the co-coach of the year in the Freedom Division.
“The Suburban One League has a rich history and plenty of excellent coaches within its ranks,” Weneck said. “I'm humbled that some of them felt I deserved recognition for my efforts this past season. There are no shortcuts to building a successful wrestling program. The best wrestler on the team can't score any more points than the most inexperienced athlete. It truly is a team sport despite being known for the individual matches that everyone enjoys.”
The 2022-23 wrestling team epitomized a "team-first" attitude all season and were able to put Cheltenham back on District One's wrestling map. The team went undefeated in their league dual meets (5-0) and had a record of 10-5.
On top of the team success, four wrestlers won gold at the Freedom Division tournament, and the team qualified a school-record five wrestlers for the Southeast Region postseason tournament.
“We are very proud of the program and our coach for their continued effort to strive for success,” athletic director Patrick Fleury said. “The boys enjoyed their first winning season in some time, and we look forward to the new heights they will reach next year and in the years to come.”
