(December 8, 2022) With 17 numbers by four groups, Cheltenham High School vocal arts gave an unforgettable performance Tuesday evening in Stretton Hall. The concert choir, select choir, and acapella groups Up the Octave and Sons of Pitch each performed selections from a plethora of genres.
The select and concert choirs opened the show with three traditional folk songs,
the Xhosa folk song “O Lilizela,” the Jewish folk song “Al Shlosha D’Varim,” and a folk merengue from the Dominican Republic, “El Pambiche Lento.”
The select choir followed suit and performed “El Grillo,” “Ubi Caritas,” and “It Takes a Village.” Up the Octave performed “Sunshine,” “Put Your Records On,” and “Shark in the Water,” followed by Sons of Pitch’s “For the Longest Time” and “More Than A Woman.”
The performances continued with the concert and select choirs teaming up to sing “It’s All Right,” the traditional Nigerian folk song “E Oru O,” and the traditional Malaysian folk song “Wau Bulan.” The night ended with three final performances from the select choir, including “Home,” the traditional Georgian folk song “Suliko,” and “Freedom Train.”
