CHS Students Earn Finalist Status in NY Times Student Editorial Contest
(July 7, 2022) CHS rising seniors James Biglan, Charli Jones and Alana Lewis all placed in this year’s ninth annual New York Times Student Editorial Contest. As students in Megan Hogan’s AP Language and Composition class, Biglan earned an honorable mention for his work “Moving Forward, Together,” while Jones (“Fore- getting Diversity”) and Lewis (“Decoding Dialects”) finished as round four finalists.
From memes to mental health, and from book bans to biking, the NY Times Student Editorial contest affords young people the opportunity to write about the issues that matter most to them. This year’s contest saw a record 16,664 entries, about 5,000 more than ever before. To judge the work, 68 judges worked over two months and through six rounds of reading to choose the 200-plus students honored as finalists.
