CBK Student Chemists Finish Third in “You Be the Chemist” Competition
This past weekend, a team of Cedarbrook chemists called “Chemically Compelled” finished third in the Chemical Educational Foundation’s “You Be the Chemist” competition at the DOW Research Center in Collegeville, Pa. Rheva Wolf, Theodore Peebles, Trinity Peak and Griffin O’Connor comprised the team, and worked well together, tapping into each other’s strengths, while maintaining a positive energy and enthusiasm that permeated the audience.
The competition required teams to answer application type questions collaboratively in a short-answer format. The team answered 20 questions in each of four rounds to lock up third place, besting teams from throughout Montgomery County.
The squad had been preparing for this competition since mid-December, meeting one period a week and utilizing time at home. The group studied a variety of chemistry topics including classification of matter, atomic structure, the periodic table, chemical bonding, formulas, reactions, radioactivity and nuclear reactions.
