Senior Instrumentalists Aires and Amaefuna Advance to PMEA Regionals
After two days of diligent rehearsal and a concert with students from across Montgomery and Bucks County at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 11 Orchestra Festival at Hatboro-Horsham this past week, seniors Naomi Aires (cello) and Ifenna Amaefuna (violin) earned berths to perform at the Region VI Orchestra Festival. Senior Chris Luk (cello) played alongside his classmates at the district festival, but did not qualify for regionals, which are March 12-14 at Neshaminy High School and will determine who advances to the PMEA annual conference festival in Hershey in April.
Aires and Amaefuna both qualified for regionals in 2019 when Aires became the first Cheltenham cellist to qualify for the PMEA All-State Festival in more than a decade. Amaefuna will be looking for his first bid to the state conference festival.
The PMEA District 11 comprises all levels of public, private, parochial, college and university, as well as retired music educators, administrators and music industry representatives from throughout Bucks and Montgomery Counties. The organization aims to advance the study of music education throughout the commonwealth and encourage excellence in the study and teaching of music. The association supports and promotes quality music education through statewide workshops, conferences, performances and festivals.
