CSD Elementary School CLASP Programs Showcase Talent with “Lights on Afterschool”
CSD elementary school students enrolled in CLASP recently participated in the “Lights on Afterschool” program, the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important roles in the lives of children and families.
As part of the two decade-old program, each elementary program staged a show, and invited friends and families to attend. Students and staff worked as emcees, costume designers, stage crew and set designers or handled audio/video.
“What an exciting time to see our children show their talent,” said CSD CLASP Administrator Peggy McManus. “It was a very special time enjoyed by all. I have such gratitude to the staff for the time planning and preparing for this special event.”
Wyncote Elementary students worked collaboratively with CLASP teachers and collectively with their classmates to showcase student talents in “A Taste of Disney.”
Cheltenham Elementary highlighted student and staff talents through various styles of performance arts. As the CLASP staff worked together to create an amazing performance, they formed a team that will be unbreakable.
Glenside performed an abridged version of “The Wizard of Oz” and we had activities and games for students and families to enjoy. The students chose the play and what roles they would like to perform. Students practiced three times a week for more than a month. Every student took home craft projects they made that night.
Myers Elementary staged a clothesline art show tribute to the works of Dr. Seuss. Each grade created a unique art project focusing on one of Dr. Seuss' books. The students themselves served as "tour guides" for parents and families, and led the families through the art displays and then into the gym for a craft time and light refreshments.
