CSD PBL Teachers Participate in Avalon Foundation Design Workshop
Cheltenham School District project-based learning teachers Isaac Stanford, Omar Rose, Brian Smith, Jerome Lowery, Lyndie Dubbs, Patrick Fleury, Lisa Sunny, Mark Hoff and Karen Shaffran participated in a two-day design fellow workshop this past week.
Facilitated by High Tech High’s Graduate School of Education professional learning staffers Alec Patton (Editor of “Unboxed Learning”), Randy Scherer (PBL Leadership Academy Project Director) and Brent Spirnak (multimedia ethnographer), the workshop asked the essential questions, “What drives student learning?” and “How might we plan to document our project as we work so that we can share a useful and intentionally-customizable PBL curriculum at the end?”
With fellows working on projects for the winter or spring, they were tasked with refining and developing a project plan, creating a prototype of one of the products students will be making, and planning how to document their projects. The fellows also dove into the HTH Design PBL Design Kit, covered the emotional arc of a project, project calendaring and tuning protocols.
While the crew from High Tech High was in district, they interviewed the PBL teachers, STEM supervisor Dr. Brian Reilly, gifted education supervisor Matt Pimental, director of secondary education Charlene Collins and superintendent Dr. Wagner Marseille for an upcoming edition of “Unboxed Learning.”
