While it wasn’t the entire United Nations, it was pretty close. On Friday Nov. 15, Cheltenham Elementary School celebrated its annual Heritage Night with displays representing Israeli, Polish, Italian, German, Mexican, Haitian, Puerto Rican, African American, Irish, Brazilian, Vietnamese, Columbian, Liberian and Sierra Leonean heritages.
The displays included delicious food and items related to that heritage. Many participants donned native garb or showed off colors related to their heritage. CHS student group Latinos Unidos hosted a display and the Asian Students Association demonstrated the popular musical genre K-Pop.
Irish dance and music and songs from the Pilgrim Wesleyan Church of Philadelphia Youth Choir brought an added layer of interactivity to the event, as did a display of the Brazilian martial art capoeira.
