With CHS, CBK and The University of the Arts alumnae Alison Ormsby directing, Cedarbrook’s performing arts group is mounting the award-winning ”She Kills Monsters” Thursday and Friday, Nov. 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. Acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen authored the dramatic comedy as a look into the world of fantasy role-playing games. The New York Times claimed the play “... will slash and shapeshift its way into your heart.”
“She Kills Monsters” tells the story of high schooler Agnes Evans as she deals with the death of her younger sister Tilly. When Agnes stumbles upon Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres and ’90s pop culture, Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to everyone’s inner geek and warrior within us all.
The cast includes Emma Sabulsky (Kaliope), Hanalinn Toly (Agnes), Aniyah Medndez (Vera), Marin Goldfarb (Tilly), Kathryn Stirzel (Lilith), John Mazzaccaro (Miles), Maggie Biglan (Tina), Helen Dugan (Gabbi), Jolene Michel (Narrator), Lena Cathcart (Chuck), Ronan Purcell (Orcas), Shay Millis (Steve) and Rheva Wolf (Farrah). The ensemble of monsters and zombie cheer squad includes Mia Braccia, Betsy Cooper, Henri Heath, Maya Smith, Shalom Cuker, Quinn Durso, Alex Sharpem, Leyna Phung, Amina McCain, Sam Bower, Ashley Ether, Nelissa Bryan, Gwendolyn Bernstein and Audrey Cartin.
Tickets are available online at cbktheatre.org for $8 and at the door for $9.
