Girls Track Takes Unprecedented Seventh Consecutive District One Title
Congratulations are in order for the Cheltenham High School Girls Track team who captured the title for an unprecedented seventh consecutive year at the 2019 District 1 3A Girls’ Track & Field Championships this past weekend with an overall score of 65 besting the number two team of Coatsville by 15 points.
Senior Bria Barnes placed first in both the 400m and 200m with times of 54.40 and 24.46, while senior Ciani Fleming placed 5th in the 200m with a time of 25.83. Junior Brianna Smith placed 1st in the high jump at 5-07.00, 2nd in the long jump at 18-02.00 and 2nd in the 100mH with a time of 14.56. Senior Janelle Williams finished in 8th place in the 1,600m with a time of 5:10.68 and the 4x100m relay team of Bria Barnes, Ciani Fleming, freshman Cydney Wynn, and sophomore Talia Simpson placed 3rd with a time of 47.87.
Our boys track team also racked up some impressive results as senior Mason Jones placed 1st in the 100mH with a time of 14.93 and junior Nate Edwards placed 3rd in the 100m with a time of 11.09. The 4x100m relay team of Mason Jones, Nate Edwards, junior Jamir Barnes, and sophomore Sam Sykes placed 3rd with a time of 42.08.
