CHS Senior Abe Moss Earns National Merit Scholarship
Cornell University-bound CHS senior Abe Moss has been awarded a National Merit Scholarship. An aspiring judge, Moss will study history as an undergraduate and plans to attend law school. A straight “A” student throughout high school, Moss plays violin with the chamber orchestra and earned Eagle Scout status this past November. A member of the CHS Constitutional Scholars club, Moss also served as the vice president of the CHS National Honor Society.
A Wyncote resident and former student at Wyncote Elementary, Moss is one of just one of 104 students in Pennsylvania and 2,500 students nationwide to earn this honor. The original pool of finalists included 15,000 students.
The selection process began when the roughly 1.6 million high school juniors who took the PSAT in 2017 were automatically entered into the competition. Semifinalists then completed a detailed scholarship application, including an essay and information on leadership and extracurricular activities. A semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay and earn SAT scores that confirm the student's earlier performance on the qualifying test.
The program awarded more than $31 million in scholarships to 2019 winners.
