Senior Afwé Griffin Reps for Cheltenham at Philly H.S. Fencing Championships

Afwé Griffin Donning blue and gold socks, senior Afwé Griffin will represent the Panthers in the inaugural Philadelphia Division High School Fencing Championships on Sunday, May 5 at 10 a.m. at Germantown Friends’ Scattergood Gymnasium. Griffin will take the strip to compete in the Junior Women’s Epee and Junior Women’s Saber divisions. More than 50 male and female fencers from area high schools are competing in one or more of six categories.

Fencing for just three years, Griffin has had a stellar season, qualifying for her third junior olympics and placing well in several local tournaments. Griffin earned her E-19 rating, which opens her to an entirely new level of competition and makes her eligible for all-American honors from the United States Fencing Association. Griffin is leaning toward attending Temple University in the fall and wants to eventually fence for the legendary Owls’ coach Dr. Nikki Franks.
