Girls Track Sets School Marks at New Balance National Indoor Meet
This past weekend, the Girls Track team set a handful of school records at the New Balance National Indoor meet at the Armory in New York City. Junior Brianna Smith had an outstanding meet in the pentathlon and high jump. She placed fifth in the pentathlon with a school record 3,667 points, a mark good enough for second all-time in Pennsylvania and No. 16 all-time in the United States among high schoolers. In the high jump, Smith broke her own school record, leaping 5-8.5, a height placing her ninth all-time in Pennsylvania.
Senior Bria Barnes took the competition by storm with her fourth place finish in the Championship 400-meter final, setting a school record at 54.05. Her performance makes her No. 2 all-time in Pennsylvania, and No. 28 all-time among U.S. high schoolers.
The sprint relay of senior Ciani Fleming, sophomore Talia Simpson and freshmen Cydney Wynn and Donya Baxter ran a season-best in the championship section of the 4x200 meters (1:47.49).
