District Celebrates "Start With Hello" Week

This week (September 24-28), the district will once again recognize Start with Hello Week, a national initiative to raise awareness and educate students and school communities about social isolation – the overwhelming feeling of being left out, lonely or treated like one is invisible. Start with Hello teaches students the skills needed to reach out and include those who may be experiencing chronic social isolation and create a culture of inclusion and connectedness within their school.

Sandy Hook Promise organizes the national Start with Hello Week; a nonprofit organization led by several family members who lost loved ones at the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting on December 14, 2012. The organization’s mission is to prevent gun violence before it happens by teaching youth and adults how to recognize the signs, intervene and obtain help for individuals who may be at risk of hurting themselves or others.
