CHS Hosts Fifth Annual Hackathon

hackathon students(Jan. 18, 2024) The Computer Science Honor Society hosted the 2024 “Hack the Ham” this past weekend. For the fifth year in a row, this STEM event hosts students in grades 7-12, with workshops in JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and Scratch. 

The top award for CHS went to London Montague (’26). Other major awards went to CHS and CBK students for Game Design, Data Science, WISE (Women in Science and Engineering), and a variety of creative and theme-related categories. This video is from Alex Sharpe, who won the Christopher Bloom Memorial Award for Game Design.

New this year, CHS seniors gave a presentation on the college application process, with tips on navigating the tours, Common App, and Naviance challenges. Senior Esther Kim designed the hack-a-thon logo.

This year's event brought visits from CHS alumni Malachi Eberhart (’23), Damian O'Connor (’22), Natalie Doebley (’22), Nana Korsah (’22) and Malcolm Garbutt (’21). All five guests are studying computer science or related majors at schools in the Philadelphia region.
