Heritage Night at CES

(Dec. 4, 2023) While it wasn’t the entire United Nations, it was pretty close. On Friday, Dec. 1, Cheltenham Elementary School celebrated its annual Heritage Night with displays representing Puerto Rican, Brazilian, Moroccan, Mexican, Ukrainian, Argentinian, North and Northwest European, West African and Haitian heritages. Miniature country flags were strung across the gym, a DJ spun international tunes, and families visited a photo booth as children played indoor fútbol.

The displays included delicious food (rice and beans, plantains and pizzelles) and culturally related artifacts (dolls, masks and instruments) from numerous heritages. Many participants donned native garb or showed off colors related to their heritage. Students were given “passports” to collect stamps from each display.

In addition to the food offered at the displays, Lillys Authentic Indian Cuisine, Creekside Market and Tap, Luigi's Pizzarama and Haitian restaurant Gou also provided food. Special thanks to the CES PTO for putting the event together.
