davis headshot(October 3, 2023) With more than 16 years of experience as a sport professional in Olympic field hockey and lacrosse, Ahngelique A. Davis has been named head coach of the CHS field hockey team. For the 2023 season, Davis’ goal is to develop the talents of players into higher performance play.

“My mission is to facilitate the transfer of academic skills from classroom learning to the field play of athletics into real life,” Coach Davis said. “We are in the process of a powerful change in the school district and the nation. We have a team that’s committed to learning and is interested in mentoring each other into mastery which is rich soil for growing good field hockey, as well as good people.”

Coach Davis’ career in team development and organizational design began at Philadelphia’s Northeast High School, where she pioneered the Lady Vikings Lacrosse team from a three-person, developing sport into a 50+-person, multi-year championship team gaining school-district wide accolades as one of the winningest teams in District 12.

Favoring herself to the sport of her youth, she championed field hockey as one of her many favorites after winning the 1988 Philadelphia Public League Championship as a SPARC Magnet student with Northeast High School, where she was an All-Public League defender recruited by Temple University on an academic scholarship.

“I stand on the shoulders of teachers who have invested in these student community members before my arrival,” crediting her colleagues with the solid fundamentals she observed in preseason. “I owe it to them, and to the players, to ensure they have the opportunity to love the game like I do with the transfer of their skills to lifelong functional habits that will take them to leaps and bounds above me.”

Davis supports diversity and inclusion, serving various (inter)national sport governing bodies as board member, administrator, technical officer, umpire, coach, and education advocate. Committed to service in the growth, education and mental/physical health of scholar-athletes as paramount in creating successful program paradigms, Coach Davis has partnered with the following organizations: PIAA; Philadelphia Coaches' Association; USA Field Hockey; NCAA; USA Lacrosse; University of Pennsylvania Lacrosse; Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association; Black Women In Sport Foundation; National Lacrosse League; Israel Lacrosse; SANKOFA Lacrosse; and Canada’s Sport 4 Life Society. She supports student-player leadership training using the Athlete Development Model (ADM) used by the national governing body for the Olympic and Paralympic games that encourages an athlete’s lifetime engagement, increases player participation, reduces academic dropout, enhances the FUN-damentals, and makes field hockey the best experience for all communities.

Her primary objective is that “No one will leave the field without the knowledge that their talents are transferable from field hockey to life.’’

Outside the coaching, the North Philadelphia-area native works within various echelons to develop and sustain global sport initiatives supporting sport safety and neuroscientific research on brain injury/concussions in athletes. In her local community, she volunteers for the Police Athletic League, Citizens’ Police Academy and faith-based organizations supporting inclusive neighborhoods. She is also a PK-12 STEM mathematics and special education teacher, completing her Master's of Science in Education with teaching-certs at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. In her free time, she is a local and international adult league sport athlete, multi-national travel enthusiast, avid adventurer of national parks, philanthropist and charitable trust supporter, and international speaker.
