Comp Sci Teacher Putterman Wins Grant for Hackathon

putterman(August 25, 2023) Congratulations to high school computer science teacher Sarah Putterman for receiving a $2500 grant from Affinity Healthcare Solutions.

Putterman plans to use the grant to fund a hackathon event for grades seven through 12. “Hackathons are safe events for students to explore computer science, while also providing mentorship opportunities for younger students,” Putterman said. “I look forward to Affinity Healthcare Solutions playing a role in funding our event.”

Hackathon participants choose a programming language or platform, build a creative project on a theme, and then present their work to judges (who are older students). The hackathon lasts about 48 hours, and involves alumni and professional visits. Cheltenham has hosted four hackathons since the pandemic started, and each one has been funded by local companies.

Affinity Healthcare Solutions is a Black-owned, women-operated business in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, offering skilled and non-skilled home healthcare services throughout all Pennsylvania counties.
