Arcadia Students Help Glenside Teachers Prepare for the School Year

students helping(August 21, 2023) Nearly 40 student volunteers from Arcadia University’s Community and Civic Engagement Center (CCEC) gave a helping hand on Monday morning to Glenside Elementary teachers and staff in preparation for the beginning of the school year.

Students from Arcadia set up bulletin boards, unloaded and prepared supplies, moved furniture, made copies, and cleaned up the courtyard and playground areas.

“This is our third year helping the teachers at Glenside,” said Arcadia’s Director of Global Engagement Scott Terry. “It's a great way to introduce these students to the surrounding area, and help give back to the community along the way.”

Students involved in the CCEC arrived on campus a few days early to participate in the event. The group consisted of First-Year Study Abroad Experience (FYSAE) students; Civic Scholars, a program for students in any major who are passionate about driving social change; and Heights (formerly known as Steppingstone) Scholarship recipients, a program dedicated to providing academic access to Black, Brown, and first-generation college students .

“I love doing this project every year because it allows us to bring students from different backgrounds together,” said Terry.
