Dearry, Fleury Earn State-Level Recognition for Hoops Program
(May 10, 2022) In a statewide vote of sportswriters, Cheltenham senior guard Rasheem Dearry earned third-team all state honors and coach Patrick Fleury was voted the state’s co-coach of the year.
The 6-3 Dearry averaged 15.1 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game as he led the Panthers to the Suburban One tournament title, District 1 semifinals and the state quarterfinals, en route to a 31-2 record.
“His success is a testament obviously to his hard work and the hard work of his family, but also his teammates to be able to sacrifice their individual success for team success,” Fleury said. “To be recognized is amazing for our community and our younger students to show them it’s possible, and there’s definitely new heights and accolades we all want for each other.”
Fleury, a Cheltenham alumnus who boasts a 87-17 record in his four seasons, shared the coach of the year accolades with Roman Catholic’s Chris McNesby. Fleury led the Panthers to an undefeated home record and the most victories in a season in school history. The Panthers were the only team in the state with 30 victories this season.
