Senior Dan Hayes Earns Bronze at SkillsUSA State Competition

dan hayes senior photo(April 20, 2022) CHS senior Daniel Hayes, a cybersecurity student at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN), took third place in the extemporaneous speaking category at the SkillsUSA State Competition held April 6 - 8, 2022, in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
One of 13 EASTERN student competitors, Hayes spoke about how he used the SkillsUSA-defining characteristics of adaptability, flexibility, and self-motivation to adjust and succeed in remote learning.
“I spoke about how it was difficult to transition because I was used to relying on my peers and asking the teacher questions,” said Hayes, who plans to study business at Montgomery County Community College in the fall. “When we got to virtual learning, I had to give 100% effort because I had to do everything on my own. Once I really put my mind to it, I started doing well and realized I could use the opportunity to get great grades for the year. I mentioned that the characteristics I built are still helping me in school and in life outside of school.”
