Myers Students Participate in Playwrights Festival
(March 22, 2022) - Students Jeremiah Beaver, Oliver Branch, Zayd Chennault, Kyndall Dark, Amelia Krivda, Alsatia Malcolm Johnson, Tayden McElveen, Grant Tudos and Londyn Valentine recently participated in the virtual Myers Playwrights Festival.
The event included actors from the Philadelphia Young Playwrights (PYP) reading the group’s shared play, “The Magical Story,” in addition to student-written monologues.
In “The Magical Story,” ordinary children meet the world of magic, and “friendship and love face a power hungry teacher.” A magical world lies just beneath an ordinary day where magical beings try to hide their powers, but when they are discovered, chaos ensues. With the help of a well-dressed mouse, the students are saved and the teacher is banished forever.
PYP actors read monologues written by Grant Tudos (“The Grinch”); Amelia Krivda (“Ruby's Complaint”); Londyn Valentine (“The Phone”); Alsatia Malcolm Johnson (“The Letter”); Kyndall Dark (“The User”), Jeremiah Beaver (“Mario’s Job”); and Tayden McElveen (“Number One Store”). Aside from slight edits and minor suggestions, students wrote the monologues with little adult support. Students can submit their plays and monologue to the Philadelphia Young Playwrights if they choose.
