Alumnus Makes National Tour Debut in the Musical Comedy “The Prom”
Chris McCrewell ’04 will make his national tour debut this November in the ensemble of “The Prom,”the 2019 Drama Desk Award winner for Outstanding Musical. The tour begins in Cleveland in November.
“I used the pandemic to recharge and refocus and was ready to put in the work come audition season,” McCrewell posted on Facebook. “This is just the beginning of my dreams coming true and I’m ready for the ride. In a time when the world needs to be more loving and accepting, I am so honored to be chosen to help tell this story. IT’S TIME TO DANCE!!!”
McCrewell, who graduated from Hampton University with a bachelor’s degree in music (education emphasis and voice concentration) has performed in regional theater productions of “Sister Act,” “Children of Eden,” “Bright is The Ring of Words,” “The Migration,” “Pirates of Penzance” and “La Traviata.” Check out his demo reel>
With music by Matthew Sklar, lyrics by Chad Beguelin and book by Bob Martin and Beguelin, “The Prom” follows four Broadway actors on a mission to change the world, and the love they discover that unites them. “New York Magazine” called the musical “smart and big-hearted.” “The New York Times” declared it “makes you believe in musical comedy again!” Variety claimed, “It’s so full of happiness that you think your heart is about to burst.
The tour is scheduled to play 20 cities across the country over the next year with a week-long stop at the Hershey Theatre in Hershey, Pa., from December 28 through January 2.
