CBK Students Creating Sleeping Mats from Plastic Bags for the Homeless

CBK Students Create Sleeping Mats for the HomelessCedarbrook students in Amie Raynor’s WIN class have been creating sleeping mats  for the homeless from plastic bags. The students collected plastic shopping bags and cut them into strips before creating plastic yarn and crocheting the mats.

“After researching ways to upcycle plastic bags, I combined a passion for crafting with interest in public service and preserving the environment, and the kids dove right in,” Raynor said.

Each mat requires as many as 600 bags, and the CBK community contributed many to the cause. Raynor hopes to finish three mats which will be donated to those in need.

“We are so proud of their willingness to outreach to others. It’s great seeing them putting our Wildcat Way R.O.A.R. tenets of respect, responsibility, outreach, achievement, and resilience into practice,” added CBK Vice Principal Adicia Cohen-Johnson.
