Wyncote Principal Dr. Crystal Clark Participates in County-Sponsored BHM Panel

Wyncote Principal Dr. Crystal Clark Participates in County-Sponsored BHM Panel Wyncote Elementary School Principal Dr. Crystal Clark recently participated in a Montgomery County Black History Month (BHM) virtual panel discussion focused on education. The event was part of the “The Black Family: Representation, Identity, and Diversity” series, a national BHM theme established by the Association for the Study of African American Life & History (ASALH).

Other panel participants included CSD School Director Chris Pender, director of a Philadelphia and New Jersey regional after-school program; Rachel Kirksey, principal at Norristown Area School District’s Whitehall Elementary School; and Dr. Craig Brown, former Cheltenham board member and past president of Cheltenham NAACP.

A wide range of topics was covered, and, as a principal during the pandemic, Dr. Clark was able to offer a unique point of view.

“I think it’s important for us not to forget that this is a pandemic, and that the mental health of our staff members as well as our community members has been stretched,” Clark is quoted as saying in the Philadelphia Tribune. “People have been dealing with very stressful situations, whether they have family members who’ve become ill, whether they are having issues with being laid off of work, financial issues, food insecurity issues. As a principal, I’m dealing with the educational side of making sure students have an appropriate academic environment.”
