High School Fall Athletics Receives Go-Ahead for Workouts
Elkins Park (September 11, 2020) - At the Tuesday, September 8 legislative board meeting, CSD Superintendent Dr. Wagner Marseille announced the reactivation of voluntary workouts for high school fall sport teams under the guidance of the school district’s board-approved health and safety plan.
Citing the district’s inability to mitigate the exposure and transmission of COVID-19 during interscholastic competition, Dr. Marseille suspended all CSD fall athletic activities, practices and competitions at the Thursday, Aug. 20 special board meeting.
With this reactivation, director of athletics Suni Blackwell will update the district’s return-to-play sports plan to reflect requirements for fall voluntary workouts, which will follow the PIAA protocol for out-of-season workouts.
CSD will continue to review information delivered from the PIAA and District One regarding an alternate solution for fall student-athletes to compete at a later date in the school year. CSD administration will continue to monitor health and safety guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services and Governor Wolf’s office.
Fall voluntary workout restart dates will be announced once the updated plan is approved. Workouts will occur Monday - Thursday from 3 – 5:30 p.m. Teams will not exceed three workout days per week. No student transportation will be provided.
Through virtual clubs and activities and fall sports voluntary workouts, the district will continue providing positive outlets for its students during virtual schooling.
