Retiring Myers Music Teacher Susan Ohrt Named Finalists for the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra’s Ovation Award

Longtime Myers Elementary music teacher Susan Ohrt has been named one of 10 finalists from across the Delaware Valley for the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra’s (PYO) Ovation Award for inspiration and outstanding leadership in music education.

The grand prize winner will be named on a virtual version of the PYO Gala on June 19. The winner will be presented with an award tribute, cash prize and other recognitions.

Ohrt, who is retiring at the end of this school year after 33 years in the district, received the most letters of nomination in the award’s seven years. Nominators submitted statements of support answering the question, “How has your music teacher changed your life?” She’s led a community choir for many decades and transformed the lives of thousands of children in the community.

The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Ovation Award honors an outstanding music teacher in the Delaware Valley Region who, while imparting musical knowledge, builds character, self-confidence and capabilities that position students for success in every aspect of their lives. The Ovation Award highlights the significance of music education and applauds the positive impact of music teachers on the greater community.
