Update on Myers Principalship 11/15/18

Myers Families and District Staff -

On Thursday, Nov. 1, I shared with you the resignation of Myers Principal Mr. Dan Tahaney, effective Wednesday, Nov. 21. Since that communication, we have supported Myers staff and students by increasing Central Office presence in the building and searching for the right candidate to serve as interim principal.

I’m writing today to update you on that process. I am pleased to announce CSD Director of Elementary Education Dr. Renato Lajara has accepted the temporary assignment as interim principal at Myers Elementary for the balance of the school year. Dr. Lajara will assume responsibility for Myers’ day-to-day operations on Monday, Nov. 26.

A former K-8 administrator in Philadelphia, Dr. Lajara has served as a building principal at Kensington High School, John B. Stetson Renaissance Charter School and John B. Stetson Middle School. Throughout his career, Dr. Lajara has earned accolades for developing positive school cultures, increasing attendance and showing academic growth in key content areas, some of the many reasons we brought Dr. Lajara on board as our Director of Elementary Education. I am confident Dr. Lajara will support the Myers students and staff during this transitional period.

While Dr. Lajara is based at Myers, the District Curriculum Office will seek additional assistance to support the district’s K-6 experience.

The search for a permanent principal will begin with posting the position in January. Parents/guardians and Myers staff will be asked to be part of the interview process. It is my intent to present our final candidate for board approval no later than May 14, 2019, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2019.

Thank you for your understanding and patience during this process.

Best,

Wagner Marseille, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
