Zach Garrett Represents CHS at Poetry Out Loud Competition

Zach Garrett CHS Student

Zach Garrett, (class of 2019), participated in this year's Poetry Out Loud regional competition in Philadelphia. Poetry Out Loud encourages students to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life. Since 2005, Poetry Out Loud has grown to reach more than 3 million students and 50,000 teachers from 10,000 school in every state, Washington, DC, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Zach won the competition in Katie Maahs' 10th grade English class and then won the school competition. At the regional competition, Zach represented CHS well and we applaud his tremendous efforts. One of the judges praised him for his choice of poem, Those Winter Sundays by Robert Hayden.
