Wyncote Third Grader Establishes Virtual Donation Drive To Help The Homeless
Third grader Bryce Trotman and his brother Dylan wanted to help the homeless. Their parents reached out to a charity they had worked with in the past, Inter-Faith Housing Alliance in Ambler, Montgomery County. The donations coordinator said that they had an immediate need for toilet tissue, facial tissues, bath towels and pillows for the families living in transitional housing complex, Hope Gardens. Dylan and Bryce worked with their mother to create a virtual donation drive on Amazon.com. Because there wasn't a registry option for non-profits, they made theirs a "baby registry" and used social media to spread the word. Neighbors, friends and strangers logged on to Amazon.com in support of Dylan and Bryce's call. People from as far away as Virginia and New York City saw Dylan and Bryce's social media videos and pictures and participated as well.
In 4 short weeks, the boys managed to gather 16 pillows, 78 rolls of toilet tissue, 16 towel sets and 30 boxes of tissues for Hope Gardens. Dylan and Bryce plan on continuing with their drive until the end of October.
