(September 13, 2022) Cheltenham Elementary held its PBIS kickoff assembly this morning with the second and third graders. The students learned about Cheltenham Elementary’s three Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) characteristics, “Caring, Exceptional, Safe” or C.E.S. 

At the assembly, students learned how to behave in the classroom, hallways, bathrooms, recess, and on the bus by watching video examples of the “right” and “wrong” way to complete these activities. 

Principal Nick Perez gave students the opportunity to earn Dolphin Dollars, which are redeemable at the school store. Students can earn dolphin dollars from any faculty when they demonstrate any of Cheltenham Elementary’s PBIS characteristics.

Students can also become a member of the Principal’s 100 Club by demonstrating the PBIS characteristics. Every few weeks, faculty members are chosen at random to receive a ticket to the club they can give as a reward to any student who embodies being caring, exceptional and safe. Students receive a bracelet and their names are displayed on a board outside the front office. Once a row on the board is complete, a small group of students in the club earns a special activity, such as a pizza party, extra recess or an opportunity to watch Mr. Perez’s reptiles get a treat. 

When PBIS milestones are hit, such as the school store collecting 3,000 Dolphin Dollars, school-wide initiatives are the reward. In the past, students have earned pajama day and a movie showing during lunch.
