Wyncote Resident Charles Burdell-Williams to Fill Vacant Board Seat
Wyncote resident Charles Burdell-Williams was sworn in at Tuesday evening’s legislative board meeting as the newest member of the Cheltenham School District Board of School Directors. Mr. Burdell-Williams will complete the remaining tenure of Kate Thomson, who resigned her position, effective Sunday, June 16 after nearly 18 months of service because she is moving out of district.
Having moved to Cheltenham for its rich diversity and outstanding school district, Mr. Burdell-Williams has led efforts to advocate for better educational outcomes and increased STEM experiences through volunteering at schools and taking an active role with various Cheltenham parent groups. A board member of the Cheltenham African American Alliance since 2015, Mr. Burdell-Williams served that organization for one term as vice president and is the director of outreach. In 2017, he led the introduction of the Dads Read Across Cheltenham program, an initiative to celebrate Read Across America Day with dads reading in every K-4 CSD classroom. He is also a coach and board member for Cheltenham Little League.
An experienced leader who is solutions-oriented, Mr. Burdell-Williams understands how to be successful in group settings and manage budgeting and fiscal financial performance. A pharmaceutical operations manager for Merck & Co., Mr. Burdell-Williams has resided in Cheltenham Township for the past six years with his wife Quenisha and two children, Cailyn, a rising eighth grader at Cedarbrook, and Quentin, a rising fourth grader at Glenside. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Howard University.
