Cheltenham School District is offering free training on Youth Mental Health First Aid, which is the help offered to a young person experiencing a mental health challenge, mental disorder, or mental health crisis on Thursday, April 4, 2019, from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Cheltenham School District Administration Building, Room 102, 2000 Ashbourne Road, Elkins Park, PA 19027. The training will be presented by Ms. Jane Donohue, Elkins Park School Counselor, and Dr. Nicole Warren, Cheltenham High School Psychologist. The objectives of the training are as follows:
To understand the prevalence of mental health disorders impacting youth and the need to reduce stigma in communities.
To recognize warning signs of mental health problems that may impact youth, primarily those aged 12-18.
To understand the risk and protective factors that can impact a youth’s mental health and resiliency.
To apply an action plan encompassing the skills, resources and knowledge to assess the situation; select and implement appropriate interventions; and help a youth in crisis connect with appropriate supports.
To identify and access the community support resources.
