Elkins Park Student Named Lead in Walnut Street Theatre Production of “Matilda the Musical”

Elkins Park sixth grader Jemma Bleu Greenbaum has been cast as the lead in the Walnut Street Theatre’s production of Roald Dahl’s "Matilda the Musical." She will share the role with fellow actor Ellie Biron. The mainstage show opens Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, and closes Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019. "Matilda The Musical" is the inspiring story of an extraordinary little girl with an unbounded imagination and incredible courage. She proves that despite the odds, you can do anything you put your mind to — and change your destiny. Packed with high-energy dance and catchy songs, the play thrills children and adults alike and is the winner of more than 85 international awards, including 16 for Best Musical. It’s been an exciting few weeks for Jemma, as she penned the winning play “Disagree to Agree” as part of the Philly Young Playwriting Festival. The play will be performed as a staged reading at the free Philly Young Playwrights’ SaturPlay event on October 6 at Smith Playground (3500 Reservoir Drive, Philadelphia). Learn more>
