Budding CBK Scientists Earn Top Finishes at PJAS Competition
Eleven Cedarbrook students recently exhibited projects they’ve been working on for months at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) competition. Presenting their projects verbally to judges and an audience of peers, five CBK students earned first place awards and four CBK students earned second place awards competing against a rubric.

Cedarbrook Students Participate in Day of Silence in Support of LGBTQ+ Youth
Cedarbrook Middle School students are sounding off by being silent for the day in support of the LGBTQIA+ community. Over 150 students - members of the LGBTQIA+ community and allies - registered to participate in the school’s student-led Day of Silence to bring awareness to bullying and discrimination against the LGBTQIA+ community.

Cedarbrook Middle School Students Educate Peers on Hate Speech and Rhetoric
Cedarbrook Middle School students educated their peers on hate speech and rhetoric in an hour-long, student-run forum on Thursday March 24. The forum addressed a plethora of topics, including racism, hate against the AAPI community, anti-semitism, hate for identifying within the LGBTQIA+ community, sexism, misogyny, feminism, ableism, and emotional labor.

CBK Opens Food Pantry as Part of MLK Day of Service
With one in five children in America experiencing some level of food insecurity, Cedarbrook students want to help end child hunger in their community. CBK’s National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, Black Student Union and Beacon mentorship program have collaborated to open a school-based food pantry, and will be coordinating this community service effort throughout the year.

Hack the Ham ’22
With a theme of “healthy living,” and 85 participants from Cheltenham High School and Cedarbrook Middle School, the CHS Computer Honor Society hosted “Hack the Ham,” its fourth virtual hackathon, this past weekend. At this beginner-friendly virtual event for seventh through 12th graders, participants created apps, games and websites and heard from five alumni and two professionals.

CBK STUDENTS CONTRIBUTE TO UPPER DUBLIN SCHOOL DISTRICT’S HURRICANE IDA RECOVERY
Cedarbrook students collected nearly $400 to contribute to the Upper Dublin Education Foundation to help teachers get their classrooms back up and running following the devastation wrought by Hurricane Ida this past summer.

Timothy Holman Named Director of Facilities and Maintenance at the Cheltenham School District
Timothy Holman has been appointed the Cheltenham School District Director of Facilities and Maintenance. Holman most recently served in the same capacity at the Pennsbury School District since 2020, and will begin his CSD tenure on Monday, Nov. 8. The board of school directors approved the appointment at its Tuesday, Oct. 12 legislative meeting.

CBK Student Wins Monologue Contest at Philadelphia Young Playwrights Annual Festival
edarbrook student Ingrid Kary won the middle school monologue contest at the recent Philadelphia Young Playwrights (PYP) annual playwriting and monologue festival with her work “The Observations of Incognito 111288,” a fresh twist on the classic ‘alien on Earth’ trope, which includes Tiktok, Marco Polo and galactic pig meat.

CHS Alumnus Dr. Brian W. Scriven ’83 Tapped as Cheltenham School District Superintendent
Following a national search, Dr. Brian W. Scriven, a 1983 graduate of Cheltenham High School with nearly two decades of experience as an educational administrator, has been selected as the superintendent of the Cheltenham School District. Board president Pamela Henry announced the board will vote on the appointment prior to next Tuesday’s educational affairs committee meeting. Dr. Scriven’s first day on the job is slated for Monday, Nov. 1.

With nearly 15 years as an building administrator and teacher in the Cheltenham School District, 1995 Cheltenham High School graduate Craig Metcalfe has been named principal at Cedarbrook Middle School. Most recently, Metcalfe served as the vice principal at his alma mater for the past four years.

Cheltenham School District, Township Police Agree to Revised Memorandum of Understanding to Guide Relationship Moving Forward
After months of negotiations, the Cheltenham School District and Cheltenham Township Police Department have agreed to major revisions of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two institutions. The school district board of school directors considered its own goals, input from local advocacy groups and public comment from recent legislative board meetings in its approach to reworking of the document. The final, approved MOU aims to foster a relationship of cooperation and mutual support and to maintain a safe school environment.
