  • EP Hosts Pet Supplies Donation Drive for ACCT Philly

    (June 6, 2023) Elkins Park School collected various pet items to donate to the Animal Control and Care Team (ACCT) in Philly. Students and staff have gathered clean and gently used blankets, towels, sheets, pet toys, and food that will be donated to ACCT at the end of the month.

  • Glenside Community Comes Together for GE’s Kindergarten Community Fair

    (June 2, 2023) Nearly 25 “community helper” organizations exhibited the tools of their trades Friday morning at Glenside’s second annual Kindergarten Community Fair. Over 100 kindergarteners and their families explored fire trucks and police cars, played with puppies, ate ice cream, and filled potholes as they circled the fair and learned about the people who make Glenside a community.

  • Memory of Elijah Milano Honored with Tree Planting and Plaque

    (June 1, 2023) A sweet bay magnolia tree was planted and a plaque installed near the flagpole entrance to the high school yesterday in honor of Elijah Milano, a senior who passed away in October.

    (May 31, 2023) Congratulations to Cheltenham SD graduate Ahmari Canada (seen here with his mother) who celebrated completion of the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit’s (MCIIU) transition program at an event at the MCIU on Thursday, May 25. Canada was one of 16 graduates from nine school districts.

  • Glenside Elementary Hosts Annual Third Grade Wax Museum

    (May 26, 2023) Glenside Elementary’s third grade classes participated in the “wax museum” project this week. Students dressed as their hero and memorized a speech about their life. Students brought their hero to life by choosing a pose that best embodied them. When someone from the audience came up to them and pushed their button, the students awakened and recited the speech before returning to their pose.

  • EP Sixth Graders Become Family Documentarians

    Mary Aiken’s sixth grade challenge students created documentaries about their families entitled, "How Did I Get Here?" The documentaries included student conducted family interviews recounting their family origins and history. Each documentary was around five minutes long and fully filmed and produced by the students.

  • CBK Takes Home First in Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science State Competition

    (May 22, 2023) Students from Cedarbrook competed in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) State Competition earlier this month. Of the students that competed, ten took home first place, one received a perfect score, and four placed in second.

  • Myers Hosts Robotics Scrimmage and Showcase

    The Myers Machines and Glenside Bearbotics robotics teams squared off Thursday evening in the district’s inaugural FIRST Lego League scrimmage. Both sides squared off in four rounds by programming a robot to run through a course.

  • Panthers Win Freedom Division Titles

    (May 17, 2023) Big congratulations to the boys and girls track and field teams for winning last week’s Suburban One Freedom Division Championship at Plymouth-Whitemarsh. Winning 12 of the meet’s 18 events, the boys tallied 252 points. The girls outpaced the competition with 186 points.

  • CHS Seniors Develop Environmental Curriculum for WE Third Graders at Farmer Jawn Community Garden

    (May 9, 2023) For their senior project, CHS students (and Wyncote alum) Amelia Fishman and Charlie Sywulak-Herr have developed a place-based, environmental curriculum for the FarmerJawn space on the Elkins Estate. The seniors collaborated with Wyncote third grade teacher Deb DiBattista to create the tailor made, hands-on experience in which four classes of Wyncote students participated on Tuesday morning.

  • SEANstrong Growing Stronger

    (May 2, 2023) More than 100 CBK and CHS students come out in the rain to volunteer at the mile nine water station of the Broad Street Run on Sunday as part of the SEANstrong Foundation. Student volunteers, who receive service hours for their work, have increased every year since the foundation’s first Broad Street Run water station appearance in 2015.

  • Senior Gaining Real World Experience through CHS Diversified Occupations Program

    (May 1, 2023) Cheltenham High School (CHS) senior Samantha Boyd has become a beloved member of the staff at St. Miriam School in Flourtown. Inspired by her fourth-grade teacher at Glenside Elementary, Mr. Morrison, Boyd has a career goal of becoming an elementary school teacher. Through the CHS Diversified Occupations program, she was able to obtain paid, entry-level work experience at St. Miriam School.

  • CHS / FarmerJawn Partnership Receives Urban Agriculture Infrastructure Grant

    (April 26, 2023) Cheltenham High School, in partnership with Wyncote Academy and FarmerJawn, has been awarded an urban agriculture infrastructure grant for $45,000 from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. The grant will support Project Based Learning (PBL) students as they design, build, and operate a hydroponics system at FarmerJawn on the Elkins Estate in Cheltenham.

  • Wrestlers Earn Academic Accolades

    (April 25, 2023) Congratulations to juniors Corey Bradley and Spencer Epstein for being named to the 2023 Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association’s All-Academic Team. Criteria includes wrestling the required number of matches (15 or more) at the varsity level, achieving a winning percentage of 60 or greater, and earning a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.

  • Science Fair Projects, Community Groups Highlight EP’s STEM Night

    (April 21, 2023) Featuring science fair tri-fold displays and a number of STEM-related community displays, Elkins Park hosted a STEM Night on Thursday. With almost 20 experiments ranging from gummy bear osmosis and which frozen liquid will melt the fastest, to which surface is the dirtiest and how to make clean water in an emergency, Elkins Park students impressed with their research and presentations.

    (March 30, 2023) Congratulations to senior Alana Lewis for winning first place in the Environmental Science (A) category with her project “Effect of Microplastic Exposure on Health of Begonias” at the recent Montgomery County Science Research Competition (MCSRC) at Germantown Academy. As a top finisher, Lewis will compete against students from Southeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware at the Delaware Valley Science Competition over spring break.

  • CHS DECA to Sell Affordable Prom Wear to Raise Funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

    (March 30, 2023) DECA, a Cheltenham High School student club which promotes service and entrepreneurship, is hosting The Prom Closet, a pop-up shop offering affordable prom wear to the community on Saturday, April 15. Considering the high cost of senior year, from prom expenses to college deposits, DECA students wanted to bring financial relief to families who may not be able to spend a large amount on prom attire. DECA will donate proceeds from the pop-up shop to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the club’s charity of choice this school year.

Faculty and staff selected students based on their interest in pursuing STEM-related fields. The panel consisted of former fish and wildlife biologist Deb DiBattista; CEO and president of Animal Biotech Industries Inc. (ABI) Deb Shepherd; senior scientist at Transcend Therapeutics Dr. Sarah Olmstead; two-time Emmy Award winning video producer Rebecca Elias Abboud; and aerospace engineer Ashley Kowalski.

    (March 21, 2023) Author/illustrator Andrea Tsurumi visited Wyncote’s kindergarten and first grade classrooms on Tuesday morning. They read “Mr. Watson’s Chickens,” a book Tsurumi illustrated, to the classes and taught them how to draw a chicken and a scribble monster.

  • Girls Track Relay Takes Ninth, Earns All-American Honors at Nationals

    (March 16, 2023) Congratulations to the girls 4x200M relay of junior Kira Murray, senior Mariah Winfield, senior Eyota Bey and junior Michelle Korsah, who earned second-team All-American honors after finishing ninth at the recent New Balance National Indoor meet in Boston in a time of 1:41.71. The quartet’s time was good enough for the top spot in Pennsylvania this indoor season. Bey also finished 25th in the open 400M in 56.90.

  • CHS Robotics Takes 12th at the FIRST Robotics Challenge (FRC) Mid-Atlantic Competition

    (March 16, 2023) The CHS Robotics Team, Simple Machines 423, competed in the first of two qualifiers for the year at the FIRST Robotics Challenge (FRC) Mid-Atlantic Competition at Hatboro-Horsham on March 4 - 5, 2023. Simple Machines 423 had a strong placement of 12th in the qualifiers and then advanced to the playoffs as the Alliance 8 team captain thanks to its focused drivers team and nimble pit crew! As the Team 8 captain, Simple Machines selected two other teams with complementary abilities to include in its alliance during playoffs.

  • CHS Junior Rheva Wolf Wins Philadelphia Area Affiliate NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing

    (March 15, 2023) Cheltenham High School junior Rheva Wolf has received the Regional Affiliate NCWIT Award for Aspiration in Computer Science (AiC) for the Philadelphia area. The award, powered by the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT), recognizes high school women, genderqueer, or non-binary students for their computing-related achievements and interests as part of an effort to encourage a diverse range of students to choose careers in technology.

  • PBL9 Cooks Up Annual Foodology Project

    (March 15, 2023) With vegetable fajitas, creamy ravioli, chicken lo mein, and an assortment of cookies and beverages, PBL9 cooked up their third project of the year, Foodology. Participating in a cooking demo with Keisha Prosser of the Mobile Cooking Teacher, students chopped veggies, sauteed chicken breasts and mixed ingredients, and savored their ravioli and lo mein.

  • Talking Neuroscience at EP

    (March 9, 2023) While reading Nic Stone’s novel “Clean Getaway” — a timely middle-grade road-trip story through landmarks of the Civil Rights movement and the map they lay for contemporary race relations — students in Cori Ayers fifth grade class had questions about a character who experiences seizures. Ms. Ayers invited her husband, Dr. Luke Ayers, associate professor and chair of the psychology department at Widener University and neuroscience expert, to talk to the class about the science of it all.

  • Girls Basketball All-League

    Freshmen guards on the girls basketball team, Maya Simmons and Paige Powell have been recognized with all-Freedom Division honors. Simmons was named to the second team, and Powell earned honorable mention. Simmons led the team in all offensive categories and averaged 16 points and eight rebounds per game. Powell was a defensive specialist who helped set the tone in games.

Sophomore Josiah Hutson earned first-team accolades, while senior Yakeen Respes and junior Kamani Healey earned second-team honors and junior Nile Tinsley was recognized with an honorable mention.

  • 17th Annual Blue and Gold Night

    (March 8, 2023) The 17th annual Blue & Gold Night this past Friday started with the classic obstacle course. For over four hours, students cheered on their teams as participants competed in events such as crab soccer, team handball, powerball, steal the bacon, and tug of war. In a close one, Blue won, 84-79.

  • Two CBK Students Earn ‘Perfect’ Scores at PJAS Regional Science Fair

    (March 7, 2023) With perfect scores on their projects, seventh grader Nori Huynh (Picky Plants: What Color of Light are Plants Drawn To?) and eighth grader Cole Powers (“Vowel” Language: Letter Ratios and Wordle Success Rates) led Cedarbrook’s success at the recent PA Junior Academy of Science regional science fair at Souderton. Some other CBK projects focused on minerals, babies looking like their parents, clean water, E. coli, paper airplanes, and UV-C exposure.

    (September 29, 2022) - Theater projects from Cheltenham and Myers Elementary Schools have been selected to be performed as part of the Philadelphia Young Playwrights SaturPlay showcase on Saturday, Oct. 22 at Fairmount Park’s Smith Playhouse. This year’s competition included more than 600 submissions from students in third through 12th grade.

Students weaved in and out of the line-up of tables to become a member of a new club or organization, as well as speak with the student leaders.

  • Senior Bosniak Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist

    (September 21, 2022) Cheltenham High School senior Kai Bosniak has been named a semifinalist in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship program competition. Bosniak will compete with more than 16,000 semifinalists for approximately 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring.

  • CES Students Earn Accolades for Work with Philly Young Playwrights

    (Sept. 19, 2022) With first-, second- and third-place commendations, Cheltenham Elementary School continues its tradition of creating winning plays as part of the annual Philadelphia Young Playwrights (PYP) festival. Students work all year learning about playwriting and submit their work in June for consideration. Winning plays are announced in September. CES teacher Gerald Aungst and PYP teaching artists BJ Tindal and Erik Reyes worked with this past year’s students.

  • Eighth Grader Maliah Opuni Earns Third for Monologue in Young Playwrights Festival

    (September 16, 2022) Cedarbrook eighth grader Maliah Opuni earned third place in the Philadelphia Young Playwrights 2022 annual playwriting festival in the middle school category for her monologue “From the Ashes, We Will Rise.” Opuni’s monologue finished third in a field of 630 submissions from more than 800 students in third through 12th grade.

  • Rebecca Moser Scoops Up a Position at Sprinkles Ice Cream Shoppe Through Diversified Occupations Class

    (September 16, 2022) The Diversified Occupations and Skills for Life classes at CHS have collaborated with Sprinkles Ice Cream Shoppe to secure senior Rebecca Moser a position with the Elkins Park establishment. Sprinkles kicked off the partnership Friday afternoon at the high school with an ice cream party for Moser and her classmates. She had her first shift at the shop earlier this week.

    (September 2, 2022) The Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) team at Cedarbrook Middle School kicked off the new school year with a school-wide assembly on September 1. The assembly consisted of teacher skits, a rap performance from Mr. Rose, Ms. Atwood, and Mr. Herring, as well as games and activities to set the tone for Cedarbrook’s PBIS Initiatives for the 2022-23 school year.

    (August 18, 2022) After more than a decade teaching kindergarten at Wyncote Elementary and completing several interim principal assignments in the past few years, Mr. Jim Taylor has been named the principal of Wyncote Elementary School. Taylor succeeds Dr. Crystal Clark, who has been appointed the principal at Elkins Park School.

  • Patrick Fleury ‘05 Named CHS Athletic Director

    Cheltenham High School alumnus Patrick Fleury ‘05 has been named athletic director at his alma mater. Fleury, who will retain his position as boys basketball coach, assumes the reins of the 24-sport athletics program that competes in the Suburban One League American Conference, and will oversee Cheltenham High School’s more than 60 student clubs and activities.

    After an extensive search and interview process, Mr. James D’Andrea has been appointed as the principal of Cheltenham High School, effective Friday, July 1, 2022. The board voted to approve his appointment at the Tuesday, June 14 legislative board meeting.
