  • CSD Board of School Directors Adds Three New Members

    (Dec. 8, 2023) The Cheltenham School District Board of School Directors added three new members at this Tuesday’s reorganization meeting when Ms. Mia Blitstein, Ms. Robyn Murphy and Dr. Ross Whiting took their oaths of office.

  • Senior Goldfarb Earns Recognitions at SkillsUSA District Leadership Conference

    (Dec. 7, 2023) A student in EASTERN’s Design, Photography and Illustration program, senior Marin Goldfarb earned multiple recognitions at the recent SkillsUSA District 2 Leadership Conference at Kalahari Resorts in Pocono Manor, Pa. Approximately 250 students from six different career and technical centers from Bucks, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties attended the conference.

  • Heritage Night at CES

    While it wasn’t the entire United Nations, it was pretty close. On Friday, Dec. 1, Cheltenham Elementary School celebrated its annual Heritage Night with displays representing Puerto Rican, Brazilian, Moroccan, Mexican, Ukrainian, Argentinian, North and Northwest European, West African and Haitian heritages.

  • CBK Teacher Revamps the “Chimera Project”

    (Dec. 1, 2023) Cedarbrook teacher Kristyn Sanborn revamped the “Chimera Project,” previously developed by CBK teacher Isaac Stanford. In Sanborn’s revamped iteration, students collaborated to create mythical creatures that reflected the tenets of the “Wildcat Way,” expanded on the English Language Arts component of the project, and added new project-based learning elements through “chat and chew.”

  • PBL Farmacy is Open for Business

    (Nov. 28, 2023) The Project Based Learning Class of ‘24 is pleased to offer a line of plant-based healing products to the Cheltenham community. Students designed and built a hydroponic lab to grow botanicals, researched properties of medicinal plants, and created handmade products that utilize home-grown and locally-sourced ingredients and packaging. All proceeds support PBL@CHS.

  • Diversity Festival at GES

    (Nov. 17, 2023) Thanks to P.A.W.S. for hosting Glenside’s Diversity Festival on Thursday evening. The event included more than 10 stations highlighting everywhere from Spain’s Basque Country to Sicily and Togo, and everything from pasta making to finger knitting.

  • Four CHS Musicians Join the Pros for “Beatles vs. Stones” in Keswick

    (Nov. 16, 2023) CHS senior Griff O’Connor (viola), junior Judah Blitstein (violin) and sophomores Adora Abdul (violin) and Will Edgar (cello) will join professional musicians onstage for the touring show “Beatles vs. Stones - A Musical Showdown” at Keswick Theatre on Dec. 1. The string quartet will perform six songs with Satisfaction (the Rolling Stones tribute band) and Abbey Road (the Beatles tribute band) in an epic showdown. The production includes multimedia, period costumes and vintage instruments.

  • CEF Grant Brings Coding and Robotics to EP

    (November 15, 2023) Earlier this month, several fifth-grade classes at Elkins Park were introduced to a new STEM and robotics program by Kevin Murphy, the district’s instructional technology teacher leader for K-6. As part of the initiative, students programmed and tested robots with the goal of creating code for their robot to complete a successful rescue mission.

  • CSD Innovation Launches FluxSpace Field Trips

    (Nov. 14, 2023) CSD’s Department of Innovation launched the first of its sixth-grade field trips to FluxSpace in Norristown earlier this month, as part of the MontCo Build Back Better Grant. FluxSpace’s standard STEM Day field trip is inspired by the new STEELS (Science, Technology & Engineering, Environmental Literacy and Sustainability) standards surrounding design engineering and design thinking.

  • Financial Literacy Program ‘Who Wants to be a Bazillionaire?’ Comes to CBK

    (Nov. 8, 2023) The imaginary currency “Bazucks” were in high demand Wednesday as Cedarbrook students competed in the interactive financial literacy program “Who Wants to be a Bazillionaire?” While classmates cheered them on, teams of two or three students from seventh and eighth grade came on stage to compete for bazucks through a series of challenges dealing with personal finance trivia.

  • Dr. Scriven Convenes First Superintendent Student Advisory Council Meetings

    (November 2, 2023) CSD Superintendent Dr. Brian W. Scriven convened the first of his monthly Superintendent Student Advisory Council (SSAC) meetings on Thursday, Nov. 2. The superintendent met with 25 students from Cheltenham High School and 15 students from Cedarbrook. Dr. Scriven will meet with Elkins Park students next week.

  • CSD Adds Data Specialists

    (November 1, 2023) The Cheltenham School District has added data specialists Rachel Girman and Kaitlyn Ferraro to the administrative team. Girman will serve as data and secondary curriculum specialist, and Ferraro will fill the position of data and elementary curriculum specialist. The hires come amid the school district’s renewed focus on using data to drive decision making that increases student outcomes.

  • Myers Students, Staff Glow Up at Dance Party

    (October 31, 2023) Amid red, blue and green rotating lights, energetic tunes and inspired dance moves, students and staff at Myers Elementary - many in costume - enjoyed a Glow dance party Tuesday, Oct. 31 as part of the school’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) program. Students received the reward for being safe, respectful and responsible.

  • Myers Fourth Graders Go Bananas for Digestion Experiment

    (October 30, 2023) Students in Nancy Bianchinni’s fourth grade class and Superintendent Dr. Brian Scriven participated in an experiment to learn about digestion. Students dressed in surgical gowns, hairnets and goggles to begin their experiment.

  • Touring Ensemble Premieres “Lin-Mania”

    (October 18, 2023) On Oct. 12, the touring ensemble premiered “Lin-Mania,” a show devoted to songs written by Lin Manuel Miranda. Some of the selections included “You're Welcome” from “Moana,” “Dear Theodosia” from “Hamilton,” “Carnival” from “In the Heights,” and “Keep the Beat” from “Vivo.” The touring ensemble is a select group of auditioned students who perform a revue-style show every year and perform throughout the Cheltenham community for the rest of the year.

  • Four Students Earn Inaugural McGuire Scholarship

    (October 13, 2023) Senior singers Ijeoma Ojukwu (alto) and Myles Daniels (bass) and sophomores Mason Williams (violin) and Anastasia Owens (piano) have been named the inaugural recipients of the Ian McGuire Music Scholarship, each earning $1,000 to nurture their musical talents by receiving lessons or participating in music programs.

    (October 5, 2023) Congratulations to National Merit Scholarship semifinalist senior Kadin Ginkinger, and National Merit Commended scholars seniors Madhura Boominathan and Lydia Hessel-Robinson. The trio was recognized and treated to Chipotle for lunch on Thursday.

    (October 3, 2023) With more than 16 years of experience as a sport professional in Olympic field hockey and lacrosse, Ahngelique A. Davis has been named head coach of the CHS field hockey team. For the 2023 season, Davis’ goal is to develop the talents of players into higher performance play.

  • Cedarbrook Student Chosen for Philly Young Playwrights New Voices Production at Temple

    (October 3, 2023) Cedarbrook student Sylvie Lotze’s monologue, “No Turning Back,” is one of only five pieces chosen by Philadelphia Young Playwrights (PYP) for the New Voices production. Lotze’s monologue, along with the other winners, will be performed five times at Temple University’s Randall Theater between October 12 - 21. Lotze worked with professional directors to bring the monologue to life.

    (September 21, 2023) Student leaders and staff representatives from nearly 30 clubs and organizations lined the track at CHS Stadium on September 21 for the 2023-24 Clubs and Activities Fair. Students weaved in and out of the lineup of tables to become a member of a club or organization, as well as speak with the student leaders about getting involved.

  • CHELTENHAM LAUNCHES BUSPATROL SAFETY PROGRAM TO PROTECT STUDENTS AT BUS STOPS

    (September 25, 2023) Cheltenham School District (CSD) students who ride to school on the yellow school bus can expect a safer, smarter commute thanks to a new safety initiative in Cheltenham Township. The school district has partnered with local law enforcement and BusPatrol to tackle cars illegally passing stopped school buses.

  • Glenside Unveils Outdoor Sensory Playscape in School Courtyard

    (September 13, 2023) In collaboration with P.A.W.S., RB Lawncare LLC, and Unified Therapy Partners, Glenside Elementary unveiled its new outdoor classroom sensory playscape with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday night. The Glenside community explored the space and witnessed the smiles, laughter, and learning the space will bring to children.

  • Teeing It Up

    (September 6, 2023) Throughout this summer, Elkins Park staffer Tai Crutchfield teed up life lessons for up to 50 CSD students by teaching them about the game of golf. During the two four-week sessions he offered through First Tee - Greater Philadelphia, Crutchfield taught youngsters driving, chipping and putting, but also other lessons the game has to offer.

  • Stephanie Junod (Andrewlevich) Appointed Principal at Cheltenham Elementary

    (August 9, 2023) - With 24 years of experience as an administrator and teacher in the School District of Philadelphia, Stephanie Junod (Andrewlevich) has been appointed principal at Cheltenham Elementary. The CSD Board of Directors confirmed her appointment at the Aug. 8 legislative board meeting, and Junod’s first day on the job is Monday, August 14. Junod replaces Nicolas Perez who had served as principal since 2014.
