Dr. Ross Whiting
ABOUT DR. WHITING | SCHOOL BOARD DIRECTOR

Dr. Ross Whiting (he/him/his) is a father, evaluator, and professor who is thrilled to have chosen Cheltenham in 2017. He lives in Elkins Park with his wonderful wife and two sons who attend CSD schools. As president of Dogwood Consulting, Dr. Whiting engages in evaluation and organizational development with a mission to empower organizations with information that makes positive impacts on people, processes, and policy. Dr. Whiting serves as the President of the Pennsylvania Alliance for Social, Emotional, and Mental Wellbeing, and as the Chair of the Social Emotional Learning Alliance of New Jersey's Youth Mental Health Collaborative. Additionally, he is an adjunct professor at Temple University where he teaches courses focused on leadership, equity, and inclusion
At the core of Dr. Whiting’s professional work is a commitment to equity in education, the inclusion of people with disabilities and differences, and the growth of students’ social-emotional skills. He is a former music teacher in the School District of Philadelphia where he engaged in songwriting and music theory using culturally-responsive, growth-oriented, and student-centered teaching practices. Grounded by his teaching experiences, Dr. Whiting strives to approach his work with curiosity and optimism.
Dr. Whiting received a B.A. in music education from Mansfield University, an M.A. in music education from Boston University, and a Ph.D. in urban education from Temple University.
