Mia Blitstein
ABOUT MS. BLITSTEIN | SCHOOL BOARD DIRECTOR

Ms. Mia Blitstein graduated from Cheltenham High School in 1996 after moving to the township with her family in 1988, and returned to Cheltenham in 2006 to raise her own family. A career educator, Ms. Blitstein is the program manager of Healthy NewsWorks, a non-profit organization focused on teaching health journalism and media literacy to under-resourced K-8 schools in Philadelphia, Camden and Norristown. She helps to run extensive programming, develops curriculum, and works with teachers to implement lessons directly.
Prior to Healthy NewsWorks, Ms. Blitstein worked as a literacy coach for seven years, and spent 10 years as a classroom teacher in Philadelphia, including several years teaching deaf inclusion classes. She holds a B.A. in children’s literature from the University of Pittsburgh and M.S. Ed. in elementary education from the University of Pennsylvania. Her older son recently graduated from Cheltenham High School and her younger son attends Myers Elementary. She has been active in the PTOs of Wyncote and Myers Elementaries, Elkins Park School, Cedarbrook Middle School, and Cheltenham High School.
