ShaVon Savage, M.S.Ed., J.D.
(May 16, 2024) With more than 15 years of classroom and administrative experience, ShaVon Savage, M.S.Ed., J.D., has been named assistant superintendent at the Cheltenham School District. The CSD Board of School Directors approved her hiring at its May 14 legislative meeting. Savage, who is trained as an attorney and educator, officially begins her tenure on July 1, 2024. In the meantime, she will serve as an administrator on assignment through June 30, 2024.
Most recently, Savage served as an Associate Professor of Practice in the College of Education and Human Development at Temple University. Prior to joining Temple, Savage served as the deputy superintendent of academic services for the School District of Philadelphia. In that capacity, she ensured students, families and equity were central in all decisions. She restructured and supervised the academic services division, which included the offices of curriculum and instruction, professional learning, special education, early childhood, student support services, student life, and school operations and management.
Savage also served the School District of Philadelphia as deputy chief of specialized services (2020-2021) and principal at West Philadelphia’s Henry C. Lea Elementary School (2016-2020). From 2014-2016, Savage was the director of student supports for Scholar Academies, and from 2012-2014, she was the administrator for special student programs for the Lower Merion School District. She’s also been a classroom teacher at Discovery Charter School, Penn Alexander Elementary School, Mastery Charter Schools and Shaw Middle School.
Following her graduation from the University of Pennsylvania’s Carey School of Law, Savage practiced school and public finance law for Blank Rome, LLP (2007-2009) and Wisler Pearlstine, LLP (2010-2012). Savage is the founder and managing partner of Mosaic School Support Solutions, a consulting, coursework and coaching firm focusing on building school management and operational capacity in leaders of school entities.
A senior fellow in the Neubauer Fellowship in Educational Leadership program, Savage holds Letters of Eligibility for superintendency, and principal (PK-12), mid-level mathematics (6-9) and elementary (k-6) certifications.
A resident of Mt. Airy, where she resides with her husband Michael and their son, Savage graduated from Penn State Abington in 2000 with a B.S. in business; University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education with an M.S.Ed. in 2002; and University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School with a J.D. in 2007.
