INNOVATION

In today's fast-changing world, innovation in education is not just a buzzword; it's a necessary approach to ensure our students are prepared for the future. Cheltenham School District believes in the power of innovation to transform learning, making it more engaging, relevant, and effective for every student. By focusing on the innovative educational approaches below, we aim to equip our students with the skills they need to thrive in the 21st century, fostering a lifelong love for learning and preparing them to be the innovators and leaders of tomorrow.

STEM

STEM, an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, represents a comprehensive approach to education that integrates these four disciplines into cohesive learning based on real-world applications. We offer STEM courses independently as well as experiences in non-STEM classes as part of a larger focus on deeper learning and innovation to equip students with critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative skills essential for success in the 21st century. By engaging in hands-on projects and challenges that reflect actual scenarios and problems in these fields, students not only acquire deep knowledge in each subject but also learn how to apply this knowledge in practical, innovative ways. This approach prepares our students for future careers in rapidly evolving industries and nurtures a passion for lifelong learning in the sciences and beyond. Through our STEM experiences, we aim to inspire a new generation of innovators, thinkers, and leaders who are ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.

PBL

Project-Based Learning (PBL) is an innovative teaching method where students in grades 7-12 learn by actively engaging in real-world and meaningful projects. Instead of traditional classroom instruction, PBL focuses on developing critical life skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, independence, time management, effective communication, and creativity. At Cheltenham, we're committed to preparing students for success beyond the classroom by using the Stanford University d.school's design thinking model. This approach encourages creativity and innovation as students tackle authentic challenges.

Thanks to the support from the Avalon Foundation, we've partnered with leading PBL institutions to provide our teachers with top-tier professional development. Our classrooms are equipped with the latest tools like 3D printers, laser cutters, and woodworking equipment, creating an ideal environment for students to explore, create, and learn. Through PBL, students at Cheltenham are not just preparing for future careers; they're already practicing the skills and responsibilities they'll need in the real world.
