With more than 20 years experience coaching football at the high school and semi-professional levels, Terence Tolbert has been named head coach of the Cheltenham Panthers Football program. Tolbert was the offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach at Cheltenham in 2022 and 2024, and is a business education teacher at Cheltenham High School.
“At the heart of any successful athletic program lies a commitment to excellence—in the classroom and on the field,” Tolbert said. “I believe strong academic performance builds the foundation for discipline, focus, and resilience—qualities that are just as critical in competition as they are in life.
“Our mission is to guide and develop student-athletes who are not only prepared to compete at a high level,” he continued, “but who are also equipped to face life's challenges with character, integrity, and sound decision-making. Together, my staff and I are dedicated to shaping young men who excel in sport, succeed in school, and grow into leaders beyond the game.”
Tolbert, a former semi-professional football player with the Warminster (Pa.) Colts and Northampton (Pa.) Raiders, served as the head coach at his alma mater Abington for the 2023 season. Prior to that, Tolbert was Abington's junior varsity head coach and quarterbacks coach from 1999-2009 and in 2013. Between 2012 and 2022, Tolbert held numerous positions for West Orange High School in Orlando, Fla., including interim head coach, junior varsity head coach, offensive coordinator, and quarterbacks and running backs coach. He also served as the offensive coordinator and kickoff team coach at Wekiva High School in Apopka, Fla.
In 2012 and 2013, Tolbert also served as a director with the NFL High School Player Development Program. He’s also spent time on the staffs at Quarterback Nation, All-American Games and Central Florida All-Stars.
Tolbert takes over a Cheltenham team that finished 3-7 (3-4 in the Suburban One League’s Continental Division) in PIAA 5A last season.
