PBL10 students combined their knowledge of history, English, and chemistry to stage Wednesday’s fourth annual PBL10 Comic Con, which featured student-written comic books, exploration of the hero’s journey, and chemically inspired villains. The sophomores shared their projects with CBK eighth graders in the CBK library.

At Comic Con, guests were encouraged to ask students questions about their inspiration for choosing their historical figure; to describe their character's journey in becoming a heroic figure; what superpowers their hero has and why; and what they learned about the process of creation. Attendees also had the opportunity to read hard copies of the comic books, view full-size posters, meet the characters and creators, and collect autographs.

In this project, PBL10 students took a historical figure and transformed them into a hero, whose powers are based on their historical characteristics. They then matched that superhero with a chemically inspired villain, whose powers are able to defeat the hero and are based on an element from the periodic table and its properties. The students then took the hero through the Hero's Journey against their villain. To accomplish this, PBL10 students needed to understand the base content, learned how to use AI generators, the creation process, and progress through the writing process of drafting, editing, seeking peer review, revision, and final drafting.
