Myers Elementary is proud to be a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) school, and now a district trailblazer in earning official Tier II PBIS state recognition. This year also marks the fourth consecutive year Myers has earned Tier 1 status.
“We’re always aware that there’s no such thing as a ‘One Size Fits All’ educational support model, so while our Tier I interventions and supports are firmly in place for every Myers student, we also utilize Tier II interventions and supports for students who require additional tools to feel successful,” said Myers Principal Jason Lytle.
Myers earned this honor by composing a group of Tier II interventionists known as the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) team, which includes special education teachers, Title I teachers, school psychologist, school counselor, applied behavior analyst, speech/language therapist, challenge teacher, social worker, and two administrators. The team’s goal is to provide additional services to students in need by offering a robust menu of academic and behavioral interventions.
Partnering with parents and guardians, the MTSS team analyzes student data utilizing multiple measures. Examples of Tier II academic interventions include Title I Reading and Math support, targeted small group instruction, targeted computer-based interventions, and tutoring before or after school. Examples of Tier II Behavioral interventions include topical small group counseling, booster social emotional learning counseling via the student assistance program, and check-in/check out mentoring program.
“We’re incredibly proud to receive both Tier I and Tier II PBIS official state recognition,” said Lytle. “Our students greatly benefit from this framework and we look forward to maintaining and improving our systems with each school year."
