Cheltenham High Names Three New Vice Principals

Mr. Mark Hoff, Mrs. Jennifer Lennon and Dr. Curtis Callands have been named vice principals at Cheltenham High School (CHS). Mr. Hoff began his tenure on August 1. Mrs. Lennon and Dr. Callands’ tenures will begin later in the fall.

Mr. Hoff steps into the vice principal role with over a decade of experience in the district, serving as social studies department chair, and interim vice principal.

During Mr. Hoff's tenure as a department chair, he focused on supporting the instructional growth of teachers by effectively leveraging the Danielson model. As an interim vice principal, Mr. Hoff led the first full winter Keystone administration with semester classes at the high school. He also mediated a variety of student issues, and actively participated in IEP meetings at the high school, Cedarbrook Middle School, and Wyncote Elementary School. Additionally he is a member of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) team at the high school.

Mr. Hoff earned both his master’s in secondary education and bachelor’s in history from Lehigh University. He also obtained a second master’s degree in educational leadership from Temple University and holds certifications in Pennsylvania Administrative I - Principal K-12 and Pennsylvania Instructional II - Social Studies and English.

A 2002 CHS graduate, Mrs. Lennon is excited to return to her roots with nearly two decades of experience under her belt. Since 2016, she has served as an assistant principal at various schools within the School District of Philadelphia. Mrs. Lennon comes to CHS with varied leadership experience, she has supervised special education departments, developed and facilitated school and districtwide professional developments, coordinated summer programs and has implemented a multitude of school-wide initiatives.

Throughout her career she has worked as a special education liaison, math content teacher lead, teacher coach, MTSS champion, extended school year coordinator, and an extended school year principal.

She earned her Master’s of Education in educational leadership, principal certification, and Master’s of Education in Special Education from Arcadia University, and her Bachelor’s of Science in mathematics education from Delaware State University. Mrs. Lennon also holds credentials in PA Level II Middle Years Mathematics (7-9), Special Education (N-12), and Principal (K-12).

Dr. Callands comes to CHS as a leading consultant, trainer, and principal of the trauma-informed care Bancroft School, located in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. In that role, he served students with autism and who required emotional support. Prior to his tenure at Bancroft, Dr. Callands was a principal at Elwyn Davidson School, LifeWorks Behavioral Health School, an assistant chief academic officer and principal for the Chester Community Charter Elementary and Middle Schools. He also served as administrator at Devereux Institution, and special education teacher at the Northbridge Alternative School in the North Penn School District.

Dr. Callands holds a bachelor’s degree in special education, a master’s degree in special education supervision leadership K-12, and a doctorate degree in educational leadership from the University Pennsylvania.

As a doctoral student, he conducted research on helping schools and organizations understand and mitigate trauma’s impact on children by designing trauma-informed care schools. As a researcher and practitioner in the field of education, Dr Callands designed and published a training manual, “A Principal’s Mission in Designing Trauma-Informed Care Schools.”

Dr. Callands comes to CHS with immense experience in special education, literacy development, alternative education, Danielson’s Framework and Marzano teacher evaluations, common core standards, and test preparation with the PSSA, Keystone, and New Jersey’s PARCC exams.
