Black Scholars Program Induction
- 2024-2025 Spotlights
Thirty-seven CHS sophomores, juniors and a senior were inducted into the Black Scholars Program (BSP) on Thursday evening at Cheltenham’s Stretton Hall. BSP Vice President Diana Codio opened the program with a welcome message, then the scholars entered the auditorium to Nina Simone’s “To be Young, Gifted and Black.” The cohort then heard a poem from Kennedi Johnson, BSP Public Relations Officer; inspirational words from faculty advisor Megan Malachi; and a message from BSP President Gabrielle Hall. The final piece of the speaking program came from Superintendent Dr. Brian W. Scriven, who thanked the parents/guardians in the audience for supporting and encouraging their children.
Following, the inductees processed across the stage to receive their certificates, and, after returning to their seats, recited the BSP pledge: “As a member of the Black Scholars Program, I pledge to strive for academic excellence, conduct myself with dignity and respect others as if they were my brothers and sisters. I will commit myself to leading by example and to the best of my ability, serve as a leader and inspiration to my peers.”
In order to be inducted into the BSP, students must have a 3.0 gpa and be enrolled in at least on AP or Honors course. Photos>
